The Department of Mathematics invites applications for 10 positions as

research assistant

to be filled as of October 1st 2017, available for the duration of up to 3 years with the possibility of extension.


  • Mathematical research in an interesting and stimulating environment,
  • Teaching within the programme of courses offered by the department.

M.Sc.-degree or equivalent in mathematics or a related subject with final grades above average; interest in research and teaching (primarily in German).

It is the goal of the employment to acquire a PhD level in one of the research areas represented in the department (see Candidates holding a doctorate may also seek qualification towards a higher level such as “Habilitation”.

Of particular interest will be candidates whose interests lie in one of the areas Partial Differential Equations (RG Analysis), Algebra and Number Theory (RG Algebra), Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing (RG Numerik), Metastable Conditions of Markov-Chains & Evolutionary Game Theory with Connections to Computer Science (Prof. Betz), Mathematical Statistics (Prof. Kohler), Automorphic Forms (Prof. Bruinier), Optimization Problems with Partial Differential Equations (Prof. Wollner), Applied Proof Theory (Prof. Kohlenbach), Numerics of Differential Equations (Prof. Lang), Approximation Theory and Surface Theory (Profs. Reif and Große-Brauckmann).

Candidates are requested to outline in their application their personal research interests and sketch their possible connections to the research areas present in the department.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply.
