Assistant Professorship (W2, Tenure Track) Aquatic Geochemistry (No. 247) and Assistant Professorship (W1) for Geosystem Modelling (No. 248)

The Department of Material Sciences and Geosciences of the Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applicants for faculty positions at the Institute of Applied Geosciences (IAG)

Assistant Professorship (W2, Tenure Track)
Aquatic Geochemistry
(No. 247)
and
Assistant Professorship (W1)
for Geosystem Modelling
(No. 248)

The positions will be assigned for six years.

The Institute of Applied Geosciences is focusing on the research topics water – energy – environment. We are looking for dedicated young scientist with a research profile that fits into and strengthens the development of the Institute.

Research interests for the Assistant Professorship in Aquatic Geochemistry, that should have a strong focus on inorganic hydrochemistry, could include, but are not limited to quantitative analyses of element fluxes in aqueous systems, mineral weathering impacts on groundwater quality, aqueous geochemical modelling, isotope hydrology, the hydrochemistry of geothermal systems, or environmental hydrochemistry. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the scientific management of our interdisciplinary research and teaching laboratory HydroThermikum that is equipped with modern instrumentation for water and soil analyses (IC, AAS, ICP-MS, IRMS, CRDS, GS-MS, XRF, etc).

Research interests for the Assistant Professorship in Geosystem Modelling could include, but are not limited to application of numerical methods for reservoir- and groundwater modelling, surface water - groundwater interaction, modelling of THM coupled processes, geostatistical regionalization methods, mathematical optimization methods, or remote sensing techniques. Advanced knowledge of popular modelling software, experience in programming, and application of GIS tools is presumed.

The successful candidates are expected to establish externally funded, internationally visible research groups and must participate in teaching at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level in German and English.

The experience as post-doctoral researcher should not exceed a total of 4 years. The prerequisites according to § 64 Abs. 3 HHG apply. The Assistant Professorships are designed as Qualification Professorships as per § 64 HHG. For the Aquatic Geochemistry position the option for a tenured full professorship at the end of the six years is given, after a positive tenure procedure.
