PhD candidate

The newly established research group Structure-Based Drug Research at the Clemens-Schöpf-Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry is looking for a highly motivated

PhD candidate – 50 %

starting 1.8.2017 or as appropriate for initially 2 years.

The position is part of the EU-funded ERA-IB consortium „Tacrodrugs“. The aim is to elucidate the molecular mechanism of action of analogs of the natural products FK506 and rapamycin, which are both used clinically as immunosuppressants. Novel ligands for FK506-binding proteins have the potential to become novel antidepressants or anti-obesity drugs. A particular focus is the identification and structural characterization of additional binding partners of these Tacrologs/Rapalogs using methods like protein expression, affinity chromatography, Fluorescence-based or reporter gene assays, mass spectroscopy, protein crystallization, yeast genetics, cell culture, western blots, CoIP etc.

We expect an excellent degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related disciplines. We offer dedicated mentorship in an international and multidisciplinary team as well as profound insights into the contemporary techniques of drug discovery.

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the research and service requirements attached to this position serve at the same time as fulfillment of the academic requirements for a candidate's doctoral degree.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt).

Please send your application exclusively via Email to Prof. Dr. Felix Hausch/att. Barbara Diestelmann at TU Darmstadt (diestelmann@drugdiscovery.chemie.tu-darmstadt.de).
