The Department of Chemistry, Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD), Germany, invites applications for the position as
Ph.D. student – 50 %
The position is expected to be filled as soon as possible with a three-year temporary work contract.
The application addresses researchers with excellent undergraduate study profiles in chemistry, material science, microbiology, paper technology etc., who wants to work within the interdisciplinary research cluster BAMP! > Bauen mit Papier < (building with paper) of the LOEWE excellence initiative of the state of Hesse.
The research cluster BAMP! was launched at 1. January 2017 at TU Darmstadt and is targeted on investigation of paper and functional paper based material as novel construction materials. The offered position is incorporated in a junior research group which focusses on functional paper. Especially the interaction of paper with microbial organisms will be addressed. The development of antimicrobial paper substrates and thereby the increase of durability in the field is just one objective.
Applicants should be able to enter a complex and multidisciplinary topic and expedite fundamental research self-reliant. Knowledge in cellulose- and paper chemistry as well as experience in handling mircoorganisms would be advantageous.
Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the research and service requirements attached to this position serve at the same time as fulfillment of the academic requirements for a candidate's doctoral degree.
