Programmes typically take nine semesters to complete. Teaching qualifications are aimed at school leavers with a higher education entrance qualification or to potential students who have obtained such a qualification.

Before beginning your studies, it is strongly recommended that you complete a work placement of at least four weeks (120 hours in total) and a prevocational placement of eight weeks (working the profession's typical weekly hours), although this is not a prerequisite to apply or to enrol. Visit the homepage of the Centre for Teacher Education (ZfL) for information about work placements and of the state education authority for information about prevocational placements.
