While the Foreigners Office are still working through the backlog of cases and applications, many students are here with expired visas and residence permits. This is the current, and common, problem with Foreigners Offices all over Germany. It is important that you have tried (in writing) to apply for a residence permit or requested an extension BEFORE your current residence title has expired. You are not here illegally, but it is important that you keep trying to request an appointment. Just keep your e-mails as proof.
