The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Award for outstanding achievements of international students at TU Darmstadt in 2023 has been granted to İrem Alp, Master's student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The award is endowed with 1,000 euros.

İrem Alp impressed the committee members with her diverse and continuous commitment. In addition to her significant role in the organization of the “European Mechanical Engineering Student Council Congress 2022” and her role as a mentor in the Big Sister programme, her efforts to support female students with a migration background in their first semesters of study were also recognised. Her volunteer work on “World Cleanup Day” illustrates her exemplary commitment to environmental awareness and her active involvement in promoting awareness of environmental issues in the community.

On receiving the award, Ms. Alp said she felt very honoured and encouraged to continue her work. She takes pride in her environmental conservation efforts: "I am very keen to raise awareness of the global waste problem” After a student exchange program, the prize winner chose to study in Germany and came to TU Darmstadt from Turkey in 2019. After her studies, she would like to work in the field of energy transformation.
