Abstract:

This talk will focus on understanding sensorimotor control during two phases of the movement: before movement initiation and after movement initiation. For the movement preparation phase, I will discuss factors modulating movement variability, such as resources, time and experience. For the phase of ongoing movement control, I will discuss how information from multiple sensory modalities is integrated to guide control, and propose that the fastest online movement corrections might not depend on a multimodal estimate, but rather on intramodal estimates. The work is based on computational models and experimental findings on human participants using behavioural paradigms to understand more about how movements are controlled.
