The LOEWE research cluster FLOW FOR LIFE is funded by the state of Hesse from January 2022 – December 2025. Several PhD and Postdoc positions are open from January 2022. You will be part of a supportive team that performs cutting-edge research.

FLOW FOR LIFE offers a very interactive PhD and Postdoc community with possibilities to work in different labs of our consortium as well as short-term stays abroad.

As a PhD student, you will follow a structured PhD program. As a Postdoc, you will be supported by an extra budget (Postdoc bonus) for own research initiatives. PhD students and Postdocs will take part in symposia and other activities including contacts to industry partners. FLOW FOR LIFE prepares you both for an academic and an industry career.

All positions funded by LOEWE have been filled. In case you are interested in the FLOW FOR LIFE research topics and would like to perform a Master, PhD or Postdoc project, please contact individual group leaders as additional positions might be available in single groups of our research cluster.

Group leader position

A Postdoc or Junior group leader position with a background in biology/biotechnology or related fields is available to establish an own research group within the framework of the research cluster FLOW FOR LIFE. The employment is initially limited to a period of three years with the possibility of a three-year extension.

The goal of the LOEWE research cluster FLOW FOR LIFE is to develop an artificial network that transports oxygen and nutrients within lab-grown human tissue of a centimeter size scale. Combining engineering with biological principles, and synthetic with biological materials, the project brings together experts and infrastructure from five engineering and natural science departments at the TU Darmstadt.

The successful applicant will receive funding for one PhD student and consumables. Lab space and equipment at the Biology Department will be shared.

Your profile

You are an excellent scientist with a Postdoc period of less than four years and with international experience. You are a collaborative person, enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team and your scientific interests match biological research topics pursued in FLOW FOR LIFE, such as: vascular cell biology, cellular interactions with artificial surfaces/extracellular matrix mimics, tissue engineering.
