In this interactive online workshop, we focus on how to network and communicate effectively, specifically tailored for PhD candidates on the verge of stepping into the professional world.

Discover how to strategically network at conferences, meetings, and on business platforms like LinkedIn. Learn how to initiate conversations, present yourself and your research, and maintain successful contacts, both offline and online.

Part 1: Building the Foundation

  • What is a network and how do I create my own?
  • Different types of networking
  • Networking when it seems like you have no network

  • Common networking pitfalls

Part 2: Taking Action

  • Goal setting in networking
  • Preparing for a conversation – the science pitch
  • Tailored networking – developing your communication strategy
  • Strategic networking on LinkedIn and similar platforms

  • Follow-up: How to keep in touch

Format:

The workshop will be conducted online.

The trainer will incorporate interactive elements, utilizing the free tool “polleverywhere” for participants, which can be accessed via mobile phone or browser without prior registration.

Participants' anonymous contributions will be broadcast live, allowing all participants to see what others have shared.

Participants will also have the opportunity to ask their questions live and receive direct answers from the trainer.

Additionally, participants will engage in breakout sessions to further explore exercises in teams.

A digital handout will be provided to participants, which includes the slides from the webinar, further links, and learning aids.
