The TU Darmstadt Experience Weeks
The International Student Services (ISS) Team is very excited to welcome you to Technische Universität Darmstadt!
It won’t be long before you arrive here in Darmstadt and begin your experience abroad. It’s not always easy knowing where to start, so that’s why we’re here to help!
In order to help you get settled, the ISS team organizes an orientation programme called: the Experience Weeks. During these ‘X-Weeks’, TU Darmstadt’s student tutors will help you find your way around the city, get to know TU Darmstadt’s student life and show you all that Darmstadt has to offer.
The X-weeks for the summer semester 2019 will start on Monday, 4 March. This is where you will meet your tutors, learn more about TU Darmstadt’s services and resources and get detailed information on your First-Steps to success! If you however, arrive later than March 4th your tutor will get in touch with you via email to arrange a new date and time to meet.
Please see our student exchange checklist for more information on how to prepare before arriving to Darmstadt.

Intensive German Course & Placement Test
The intensive German courses start on Tuesday 5 March 2018, and last four weeks. Course hours are Monday to Friday from 08:55 to 12:25.
The placement test for these courses will take place on Monday 4. March.
At the X-Weeks Kick-Off the team of TU Darmstadt's Department of International Affairs (Dezernat Internationales) will welcome you. You will also get to know your X-Weeks tutors and the other members of your tutor group. Together, you can start planning your first steps in Darmstadt and at TU. Following this event you will get a chance to meet the international coordinators of the different departments and further important institutions at TU (University Sport Center and other student-led organisations).
Visa and Insurance Check
Students with a citizenship of a Non-EU country are required to have a visa or residence permit which covers the complete duration of their stay in Germany. To find out whether you need to apply for a residence permit at the Foreigner’s Office, members of the ISS team will check your visa/passport.|
It is a mandatory requirement for your enrolment (“Immatrikulation”) at university to have adequate health insurance. In order to make sure that your health insurance is sufficient, you need to see our health insurance consultant, who will check your insurance and give you advice. We recommend that you visit the Insurance Check as soon as possible so that you will be able to enrol and then collect your student ID card, which is also your ticket for public transport in Darmstadt and surroundings.
Information about Residence Permit for Non-EU nationals
At this information meeting you will be informed by the team of ISS about the procedure of how to obtain a residence permit (resp. how to extend your visa) and about the required documents. Your tutors will help you completing the paperwork. If you do not enter Germany with a visa that covers the complete duration of your stay, you should not miss this event!
You will be told if you should attend this event at ISS' visa check.
