Data on the Athene card

Since the Athene card is personalized for you, some personal data is present on the card. All cards have the name of the owner printed on the front. On the back of the card the personal library number for the ULB (University and State Library) is printed as a number and barcode.

Athene card for students

As a student at the TU Darmstadt, your photo, your student number and the word student is printed on the front of the card.

Athene card for employees

For employees of the TU Darmstadt the front is optionally supplemented with a photograph. Your photo on the card is a prerequisite for use of the Mobility card, as well as an increasing number of functions such as access to employee conditions of the ULB. The photo also facilitates participation in university sports courses, as they do not need additional identification.

Your photo for the Athene card

Content requirements Technical requirements
The portrait photo must be taken head-on and your face must be clearly visible. Please adhere to the requirements of Federal printing for photos on identity cards or passports. In order for the image file of your photo can be printed, the following technical requirements must be met before uploading:

  • 3:4 aspect ratio in portrait mode
  • Minimum resolution: 480 x 640 pixels. Larger image data are downscaled to 480 x 640 pixels and up to 62 kB in size.
  • File Format: JPEG
  • File name with extension .jpg

Formatting a photo with GIMP

Gimp is an image editing software that can be used free of charge on different operating systems. You can find the latest versions available for download at www.gimp.org.

After the installation, start the program GIMP, open your image file and follow the instructions.


If you have problems uploading the image data or lack a suitable photo, you can have your photo taken at one of our photo stations.

The photostations are free of charge.
