Door number 8

Whether it's data from your research project, information about internal processes or personal data – you process a lot of things on your computer that others should not see. Make sure that third parties do not have access to your screen while you are working with this data.

Task for today: Protect your monitor from foreign eyes during work

Check the position of your monitor today: Can people entering or walking past your office look at your screen without obstruction? Can your screen be seen through the window by passers-by or people in the building next door?

If the monitor is already positioned so that only you can see it, everything is fine. If others can also see it, you should change it.

There are many ways to prevent strangers from seeing your screen. Sometimes it is enough to turn the screen a little bit. Sometimes a plant is a good way to block the view. Sometimes even the desks need to be moved a bit. Talk to colleagues in the office and your superiors about this if you see a need for action in your office. A privacy filter can also be a solution.

Privacy filters – screen protection for office and mobile use

If you work a lot on the move, for example on the train, it's best to buy a privacy filter. This is a special film that you attach in front of your monitor. This film ensures that the contents of your screen cannot be seen from the side or from diagonally behind you. These filters are also available for large monitors. So you can also use them in the office.

You can purchase a privacy filter for example from the HRZ IT-Shop.

Ask for advice to ensure that the privacy filter is the right size for your monitor.
