The Theoretical Chemistry group in the Department of Chemistry is inviting applications for a position as
PhD student – 50%
available from 1st April 2019 with a fixed-term contract of initially three years.
The role includes contributions to teaching and research in the area „Theoretical Chemistry“, especially the quantum chemical description of transition metal complexes. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of tutorials and computational laboratory classes in Theoretical Chemistry at the B.Sc. and M.Sc. level.
The project in the area of energy research focuses on the activation and transformation of small molecules. It mainly involves the application and development of classical and quantum mechanical methods for the description of transition metal complexes, specifically of complexes that split water and produce dioxygen. While entirely theoretical/computational, the project will be carried out in close connection to the experimental literature and with collaboration partners in synthesis and spectroscopy.
The candidate should have a university undergraduate degree in any discipline of the natural sciences. Good knowledge of inorganic chemistry, the chemistry of transition metals, homogeneous catalysis and/or redox chemistry are expected. Knowledge of a Linux computing environment and basic programming skills will be beneficial. All teaching duties can be carried out in either English or German.
Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt).
