    SEE-URBAN-WATER wants to share the project progress so far! The team has prepared a bulletin report of the main activities carried out during the first semester of this year. The highlight of the document is the description of our case-study areas in Costa Rica, in the Quebrada Seca – Río Burío watershed. It summarizes the achievements of the fieldwork and further activities to be carried out during the rest of this year.

    A Combined Field and Remote-Sensing Based Methodology to Assess the Ecosystem Service Potential of Urban Rivers in Developing Countries

    Natural rivers in urban areas bear significant potential to provide ecosystem services for the surrounding inhabitants. However, surface sealing by houses and street networks, urban drainage, disposal of waste and wastewater resulting from advancing urbanization usually lead to the deterioration of urban rivers and their riparian areas. This ultimately damages their ability to provide ecosystem services. This paper presents an innovative methodology for a rapid and low-cost assessment of the ecological status of urban rivers and riparian areas in developing countries under data scarce conditions.

    Vermar Urcuyo will be visiting the junior research group SEE-URBAN-WATER from 16 June to 17 July 2019 as a guest lecturer as part of the International Study and Exchange Partnership (ISAP) with our partner university Universidad Tecnológica La Salle in León, Nicaragua.

    Strategic partnership between TU Darmstadt and Virginia Tech

    As part of the strategic partnership between the TU Darmstadt and Virginia Tech Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Hack visited Prof. Cully Hession of the Biological Systems Engineering Department for 10 ten days in July 2019.

    Treffen zwischen Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Hack und Fellow Dr. Claudia Herok

    Am 15. Mai 2019 werden die neuen Fellows des Mercator- Science Policy Fellowship Programms die TU Darmstadt besuchen. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Hack wird sich im Zuge dessen mit Fellow Dr. Claudia Herok (Referatsleiterin Außeruniversitäre Forschung im Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur des Landes Brandenburg) austauschen.

    Six months of studying and field work in Costa Rica and Nicaragua ahead

    6 students from TU Darmstadt receive scholarships to spend their summer semester at our partner universities

    Within the framework of the International Study and Exchange Partnership (ISAP) with our partner universities Universidad Tecnológica La Salle in León, Nicaragua, and Universidad de Costa Rica in San José, Costa Rica, full scholarships for a 6-month exchange semester were awarded to 6 students of TU Darmstadt.
