Integrated Water Resources Management

- Development of compensation schemes for Hydrological Ecosystem Services (Building on green infrastructure)

- Water-Energy-Nexus (Addressing cross-sectoral linkages: water demand for energy and fuel production; energy demand for water extraction, conveyance, distribution, treatment, etc.)

SEE-URBAN-WATER offers students of the International Master's Program Tropical Hydrogeology and Environmental Engineering (TropHEE) project-related topics as Scientific Training for their master course. During this part of the study program students put special geoscientific methods such as terrain analysis and mapping, chemical analyses and the collection and interpretation of external data to investigate a specific topic into practice.
The Scientific Training allows the student to study a given scientific subject by means of practical laboratory and/or field methods at a high level of independency. It is a step towards disciplinary specialisation, usually in the forerun of the Master Thesis. The student improves his/her methodical knowledge and skills and is enabled to assess and use different technical and/or analytical methods, including data evaluation. The student acquires skills to understand scientific problems in the field of water and environment and to develop approaches to solve them.
Nature-based solutions for urban planning
The SEE-URBAN-WATER team offers the course Nature-based solutions for urban planning during summer terms as part of the Master of Science in International Cooperation in Urban Development (Mundus Urbano).
The aim of this course is to provide an overview of Nature-based solutions for urban planning contexts. An initial analysis of how urbanization impacts the water balance and the ecology of rivers will be followed by an introduction to different green infrastructures and the holistic assessment of these. The lecture includes several hands on-exercises based on project examples of the SEE-URBAN-WATER research group. Inter- and transdisciplinary working is a central topic of the course.

Die Vorlesungseinheit „Natur-basierte Lösungen zum urbanen Gewässerschutz“ wird im Sommersemester von Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Hack im Rahmen der Ringvorlesung “Einführung in die Umweltwissenschaft” des interdisziplinären Studienschwerpunktes Umweltwissenschaften angeboten. Die Vorlesung ist Teil des Vorlesungsblocks “Naturwissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse über die Veränderung der Umwelt” der Ringvorlesung.
