Large-scale equipment application for high-performance computer approved by DFG

Prof. Dr. Jörg Schröder (A07) as lead applicant

2022/07/01

The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) has received funding of 7.35 million euros for a new high-performance computer through a DFG large-scale equipment application. The lead applicant was Prof. Dr. Jörg Schröder together with Prof. Dr. Elsa Sánchez-García, Prof. Dr. Rossitza Pentcheva and Prof. Dr. Andreas Kempf. In addition, other working groups of the UDE have participated in the application with their research profiles.

The working group of Prof. Schröder will have access to about 20% of the computing resources due to his financial participation. These shares will be used for the most part within the subproject A07 “Scale bridging of magneto-thermo-mechanical mesostructures of additive manufactured and severe plastically deformed materials” to perform massively parallel simulations.

Currently, the European-wide tender is being carried out and a commissioning of the system is planned for the first half of 2023.
