Magnetic hardening by severe plastic deformation processes


Project A08 aims at tailoring the microstructure in ferromagnetic materials via severe plastic deformation (High Pressure Torsion (HPT)) and annealing, in order to maximize magnetic hardening effects in multicomponent and high entropy alloys based on the SmCo system. HPT processing is developed for different bulk materials and powder blends to form nanostructured composites or homogeneous supersaturated solid solutions. Nanoscale phase decomposition and segregation phenomena during annealing are used to form pinning centers or a paramagnetic grain boundary phase for magnetic hardening.
