Overview
The main goal of this project is the numerical characterization of the effective (macroscopic) magnetic hysteresis behaviour of heterogeneous microstructures within the framework of continuum-thermo-dynamics. The microstructures are e.g. additively manufactured composites and severe plastically deformed magnets. In order to overcome limited effective (single-scale) phenomenological models, which are often inadequate to capture the complex interactions of the mechanical and magnetic fields on lower scales, we apply a direct scale-bridging approach. This so-called two-scale homogenization scheme allows for further insights of microstructure-property relationships associated with the hysteresis of engineered magnets.
