Molecular and Cellular Biology

Master of Science; language: English

Start of the programme: Winter semester 2026/27

Description

The English-language Master's programme in Molecular and Cellular Biology provides an in-depth understanding of biological processes at the molecular level. This includes for example, the structure, organization, and stability of the genome, regulation of gene expression, signal processing, cell division, and cell differentiation. The programme is strongly research-oriented and ties in with current developments in modern molecular and cellular biology.

A major focus of the programme is on experimental work in the laboratory, with close links to current research. In laboratory internships and research projects, students acquire in-depth skills in modern cellular and molecular biology methods. In addition, methods of data analysis and research data management are taught in order to critically evaluate experimental results and interpret them in a scientifically sound manner.

Through its research-oriented teaching formats, the programme promotes the ability to work independently on complex problems in cell and molecular biology. The subject-specific content is supplemented by teaching formats designed to strengthen communication and reflection skills, as well as content on scientific writing, data analysis, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The programme thus specifically prepares students for careers in research, industry, or further doctoral studies.
