The English version of this website is currently being updated. In the meantime, please refer to the German website

Application for de-registration

You can submit an application for de-registration directly via your TUCaN account in the Service > Forms section. You can also track the status of your application there.

Deadlines:

  • March 31 for de-registration effective at the end of the winter semester
  • September 30 for de-registration effective at the end of the summer semester
  • In exceptional cases, you can submit an application for de-registration during the current semester with a specific date (of your choice). For more information on de-registration on a specific date, see “Exceptions.”
  • October 31 / April 30 for withdrawal from re-registration. The consequence is de-registration at the end of the semester just ended (September 30 / March 31).

Retroactive de-registration after these deadlines is not possible.

For more information on withdrawing from re-registration, please see “Exceptions.”

A certificate of deregistration (also as proof for the pension insurance provider) is available for download via TUCaN under Service -> My Documents. It will only be sent by post in special cases if the personal TUCaN account is not accessible.

We recommend that students retain their student status until they have passed their final examination and, after receiving their certificate, submit an application for de-registration at the end of the respective semester. The number of semesters and university semesters will not be indicated on the certificate or degree certificates.

Please note the consequences of de-registration:

• Upon de-registration, your membership of the TU Darmstadt ends at the time specified in the application.

• From this point on, all privileges associated with student status, such as the use of the Germany Semester Ticket, also expire.

After 90 days, you will no longer have access to your certificates of enrolment and other documents in TUCaN, as your TUCaN account will be blocked.

If you wish to discontinue only one of several degree programs, please account will be blocked. complete the application form “Withdrawal from one of multiple degree programs” in your TUCaN account under Service → Forms.

• 30 September for de-registration effective at the end of the summer semester

• In exceptional cases, you can submit an application for de-registration during the current semester for a key date (date of your choice). For more information on key-date de-registration, see ‘Exceptions’.

• 31 October/30 April for withdrawal from re-registration. This results in de-registration at the end of the previous semester (30 September/31 March).

Retroactive de-registration after these deadlines is not possible.

For more information on withdrawing from re-registration, see ‘Exceptions’.

A certificate of exmatriculation (also as proof for the pension insurance institution) is provided for download via TUCaN under Service -> my documents. It will only be sent by post in special cases where the personal TUCaN account is not accessible.

Reimbursement of semester and administrative fees

If you have already re-registered for the following semester, you can request a refund of the semester fees you have already paid in your application for de-registration. The application must be received by the deadline; for deadlines, see above.

Please note that the refund can take 4–6 weeks.

a) People who have submitted a new application and were therefore not enrolled at TU Darmstadt in the preceding semester can apply to revoke their new registration / admission up to one month after the beginning of the courses. If registration has already been completed successfully, a processing fee of 30 euros will be charged. This will be deducted automatically from the refundable semester fees. (HMWK administrative cost order dated 19.12.2013, no. 272 schedule of administrative fees).

People who have applied to change degree programmes, and who were therefore registered at TU Darmstadt in the preceding semester, are able to apply to withdraw from the process of changing degree programmes until 30 September (when changing degree programmes for the winter semester) or 31 March (when changing degree programmes for the summer semester).

b) In exceptional cases it is possible to apply for de-registration as of a specific effective date. In this case, your membership of TU Darmstadt ends on the day of application. Semester fees will NOT be refunded. Please also use the de-registration form in TUCaN service > forms.

Please note that you are no longer entitled to use the Deutschland Semesterticket after de-registration.

c) If you do not have access to TUCaN at the moment, you can certainly still submit a de-registration form. Please contact us and we will give you a paper version of the form.

More information can be obtained directly from the Student Service.

A forced expulsion from TU Darmstadt will occur automatically (officially) in the following circumstances:

  • Graduating from your degree program
  • Missing / incomplete payment of semester fees and administrative fees
  • Failure to comply with requirements associated with student health insurance
  • Definitive failure to pass a preliminary, interim or final examination (in this case you will receive prior notification from your Office for Student Affairs).

In principle, we recommend that students actively de-register.
