New Career Paths in the Life Sciences: A Series of Events on Bio-Entrepreneurship
2026/05/11 by mmw
For many life sciences students, the career path seems clearly defined: either academic research or industry. But there is a third, often less visible option—a career in entrepreneurship. This is precisely where the Nucleate Germany initiative comes in with its new event series, “Honestly Impactful: Role Models in Bio-entrepreneurship.” The goal of the series is to provide students and early-career researchers in the life sciences with concrete insights into the world of bio-entrepreneurship—and thereby open up new career prospects.
With its “Honestly Impactful” event series, Nucleate Germany aims to demonstrate that academic careers do not necessarily have to end in the laboratory. Instead, research ideas can also be transformed into innovative business concepts. The event series brings together founders, startup scientists, and intrapreneurs from the Rhine-Main region who have forged successful paths beyond traditional career tracks.
The focus is on personal testimonials: Speakers openly discuss the doubts, setbacks, difficult decisions, and compromises that come with founding a company or developing new technologies—and why this path is still worth taking.
Focus on Real Insights and Role Models
The series deliberately features authentic role models who bridge the gap between science and entrepreneurship. The goal is to convey to students that innovation and social impact are possible even outside traditional academic structures.
In doing so, the initiative makes an important contribution to fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in the life sciences—a field that is growing in importance, particularly against the backdrop of global challenges in health, sustainability, and technological development.
Events in Darmstadt and Mainz
This event series is aimed at students, doctoral candidates, postdocs, and early-career researchers interested in bio-entrepreneurship. The events are held in English and provide opportunities for discussion and networking within the regional startup ecosystem.
“Honestly Impactful” offers RMU students and researchers the opportunity to explore new career paths, gain practical insights, and establish contacts within the growing bio-startup ecosystem of the Rhine-Main region.
