Transport regulating nanopores represent an essential component of biological systems as well as of numerous technologies. One key factor to this directed, selective and gated transport in natural pores and channels is their nanoscale structure and functional group arrangement. Fascinated by this performance, nanoscale precision, and complex system design the research group Smart Membranes designs (polymer-)functionalized nanopores, to further improve functionalization precision and transport performance of technological nanopores. Going towards automated fabrication we are as well developing functionalization strategies which are compatible with printing and light-based polymer writing as well as with integration of functional nanopores into complex systems and hierarchical materials.
