The IDD masters a variety of 2D and 3D printing processes for structuring surfaces, dosing materials and producing multi-layer systems. This enables us to print electronic, biological and bio-chemical materials and to transfer established laboratory methods into a technology. We select suitable substrates as well as inks and characterize the inks and printed products, e.g. by measuring surface tension, viscosity, layer thickness and electronic function. In this respect we are currently pursuing the following research topics: Printed medical diagnostics in cooperation with the Merck Lab, printed RNA aptamer biosensors based on gold nanoparticles with the AG Süß, bone replacement structures with the University Hospital Frankfurt.
