The research focuses on the interplay between polymers and cells: from single-cell encapsulation leveraging enzymatic polymerization, to the synthesis of complex artificial cells and synthetic organelles, creating semi-artificial hybrid constructs. The ultimate goal is to develop synthetic materials behaving as close as possible to real cells, creating an "orthogonal" domain of life.
