Professional and career goals

After completing my studies, I would like to do my doctorate in the field of electromagnetic field theory and then work in development or research.

Focus and special interests in course of study

In my chosen specialization, computer-aided electrodynamics, I particularly like the simulation of fields. What fascinates me is the amount of work required, from mathematical modelling to suitable iterative methods to simulate nature with a computer.

In addition, I have put an emphasis on control engineering. It is used in almost every technical product and is therefore of central importance.

What do I especially like about my studies at the Darmstadt University of Technology?

I particularly like the university's support during my studies. Sufficient learning rooms are provided so that you have a good place to work. In addition, there is an excellent mentoring ratio in my field.

In addition, the proximity to the GSI research facility should be emphasized. There I was already able to gain insights into a large particle accelerator facility as part of my bachelor's thesis.

What has the scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation enabled me to do?

The scholarship gives me the freedom to concentrate fully on my studies in the Master's programme. It will also help me with the obligatory internship.

Professional and career goals

My goal is to work in research and development. I would like to deal with the efficient solution of problems, especially in the area of embedded systems.

Focus and special interests in course of study

In my chosen focus Embedded Systems I mainly dealt with specialized systems with limited resources. Here it is important to complete tasks efficiently. I am particularly interested in the implementation of new control strategies, also with the aid of machine learning, and the secure communication between different systems.

What do I especially like about my studies at the Darmstadt University of Technology?

I like the wide range of courses at the TU Darmstadt. This allows me not only to study technical and scientific subjects, but also events from other subject areas in the field of general studies.

In the Master's programme, the choice of subject combinations is very free. I can specialize individually in my fields of interest.

In addition, there is a wide range of activities offered by the university's sports centre, which are a good complement to my studies.

What has the scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation enabled me to do?

The scholarship of the Thomas Weiland Foundation enables me to concentrate on my studies without financial worries. It gives me freedom for my own projects and for making music during my studies.

Professional and career goals

Following my interests, in future I’d like to work with data analyses in automated technology. I’m also considering obtaining a Ph.D. in this field at the Darmstadt University of Technology.

Focus and special interests in course of study

For the technical part of my studies I chose to focus on automated technology. Among other things I’m learning about modelling and the designing of control units, but also evolutionary systems and artificial intelligence. My economic focus is on finance and I’m learning about the acquisition of capital and the associated risks.

What do I especially like about my studies at the Darmstadt University of Technology?

I especially like the large range of options in both the economic and technical part of my studies. I can choose what to focus on and learn about my interests within these different fields.

Apart from this, ties to a variety of international institutions make it possible for the Darmstadt University of Technology to offer a large range of opportunities for studying abroad. I’ve been able to complete a semester in Madrid and count the courses I attended there towards my degree.

What has the scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation enabled me to do?

The scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation gives me financial independence, so that I can concentrate completely on my studies. Apart from that, I’m considering a stay abroad during my master’s degree studies. The financial support from the Thomas Weiland Foundation would be a great help.

Professional and career goals

After finishing my master‘s programme I plan on doing my PhD since I developed great interest in scientific research during my studies. In my professional career, I want to work as an engineer in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry and make my contribution to providing the growing global population with food and medical care.

Focus and special interests in course of study

In my studies I am focusing on process engineering. I am interested in both planning and designing entire chemical plants as well as the fluid flow, transport phenomena and chemical reactions within the individual apparatuses and machines. For optimum preparation with regard to practical application I am combining these disciplines with numerical procedures.

What do I like about my studies at the Darmstadt University of Technology?

Regarding my master’s programe I appreciate the broad spectrum of specialized classes and the freedom to choose and combine these. With this feature TU Darmstadt stands out from other technical universities. Thus, I can specifically create and hone my personal profile and set an individual emphasis. During my internship after finishing my Bachelor‘s degrees I realized that my education excellently prepared me for practical work and that TU Darmstadt graduates can immediately add value in demanding projects. Furthermore, scientific research at TU Darmstadt benefits greatly by cooperation of different faculties and disciplines that often work on the same challenges at different levels and with diverse perspectives.

What has the scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation enabled me to do?

The scholarship enables me to educate and develop myself beyond the intended curriculum. In my spare time I am financially independent and can deal with scientific topics to prepare for my PhD. Contact to other highly motivated scholarship recipients offers the interesting possibility to broaden my horizon and to gain insight into new findings in other fields.

Professional and career goals

After completing my studies, I would like to work in the field of research and development on new technologies. Thematically, I am particularly interested in the automotive industry, which is currently characterized by a high level of innovation.

Focus and special interests in course of study

In accordance with my career expectations, I focused my studies on automotive engineering. In addition, a broad basic knowledge in the fields of mechanics, mechatronics and tool technology was very important to me during my bachelor studies. I developed a special interest in numerical simulations, which I also dealt with in my bachelor thesis. In the further course of my master's degree I will expand my knowledge in the field of lightweight construction and control engineering in addition to automotive engineering.

What do I especially like about my studies at the Darmstadt University of Technology?

First of all, I would like to mention the very extensive range of elective courses that cover almost every area of mechanical engineering. In addition, there is the high quality of the individual courses, which promotes a profound understanding of the subject matter. The numerous research topics of the individual institutes not only guarantee that the teaching is up-to-date, but also enable active cooperation in the form of theses, tutorials or employment as an assistant scientist. Supplemented by the university groups, an excellent combination of theory and practice is thus possible in both the Master's and Bachelor's programmes.

Furthermore, I appreciate the worldwide networking of the TU Darmstadt: for example through partner universities. This enabled me to study my first master's semester at Virginia Tech University in the USA. Now, as a mentor, I support foreign students who want to complete their master's studies in Darmstadt. I think this intercultural exchange is very interesting and important, and I like the fact that it is strongly encouraged and constantly developed.

What has the scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation enabled me to do?

The scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation makes me financially more independent and thus enables me to flexibly structure my Master's programme. This makes it easier for me to gain practical experience without the need for remuneration or, for example, to complete internships outside Darmstadt. In addition, the meetings of the scholarship providers are a welcome opportunity to exchange ideas with other motivated natural science students.

After completing my studies I would like to participate in the development of applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Focus and special interests in course of study

During my studies of industrial engineering and management I noticed that I am particularly interested in the interface between mechanical engineering and computer science. However, I did not have the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in this field in the already broadly based course of studies. That's why I decided to take an additional Master's degree in Computational Engineering. I am especially interested in machine learning and robotics.

What do I especially like about my studies at the Technische Universität Darmstadt?

I particularly appreciate the interdisciplinary orientation of my courses. As an industrial engineer you get an insight into many different areas of business administration, economics, law as well as engineering sciences. Even if the same depth as in a more focused course of studies can’t always be achieved, the high quality at the TU Darmstadt provides considerable knowledge in all these areas. As a result, you gain the ability to familiarize yourself with new types of tasks in a very short time. I therefore consider the good reputation of the TU to be justified. I consider my second degree course, Computational Engineering, to be particularly important for the future, as the classical engineering sciences will increasingly merge with computer science.

What has the scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation enabled me to do?

The support of the Thomas Weiland Foundation gives me the necessary freedom to fully focus on my studies. This gives me the opportunity for a double degree. In addition, the Foundation's meetings always offer an opportunity to meet interesting fellow scholarship holders.

Professional and career goals

What I envision is working in the research and development of new, innovative technologies in the fields of automated control or electrical motor technology. I’m especially interested in applications of these technologies in aviation.

Focus and special interests in course of study

In my master’s degree studies, I’d like to focus particularly on electrical motors and automated control technology, because I think they are exciting and innovative. Apart from that I’m interested in aviation, so I’ll also attend lectures on avionics and flight systems.

What do I like about my studies at the Darmstadt University of Technology?

What I especially like about the Darmstadt University of Technology is the quality of the teaching and the large selection of subjects in my field. I also appreciate the many-faceted research on innovative topics. Apart from that, excursions, colloquia and other offerings enable students to meet potential employers from the commercial realm, and ties to various partner universities pave the way for us to spend part of our studies abroad.

The scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation made it possible for me to spend the first semester of my master’s degree course abroad. In addition, I can concentrate entirely on my studies.
