This is a public test run for a workshop, that will take place in December for the students of Tropical Hydrogeology and Environmental Engineering (TropHEE).
This course addresses participants without prior knowledge of LaTeX. If possible, please bring along your own laptop with the preinstalled necessities to run LaTex and the corporate design of TU Darmstadt.
The 180 minute seminar develops the basics of text processing with LaTeX and an premade corporate design of TU Darmstadt. Presentation and examples will follow the typesetting MikTex 2.9 and the editor TeXstudio. It is suggested to pre-install the corresponding software on your personal computer.The aim of the seminar is to provide you with a basic knowledge of writing academic papers or similar documents.
Upon completion of the seminar you will be able to write papers, your thesis or other similar documents according to the corporate design of TU Darmstadt on your own.

Once the two softwares are installed you must download the corporate design at the following link:

The Installation Guidelines are also packed into the TUdesign.zip folder and are as following:
A. Unzip TUdesign.zip and move folder any place on your computer where the data can stay untouched. (e.g. C:\Program Files\TUdesign)
B. Open Miktex Console as administrator:
1. Choose Settings
2. Select Directories
3. Click on Add (+)
4. Follow the path to where you moved the TUdesign folder
5. Select the Subfolder "Corporate Design" and click "Select folder"
C. Open the command terminal (cmd)
1. enter command: initexmf --update-fndb
2. enter command: initexmf --edit-config-file=updmap
Add following to list:
3. enter command: initexmf --mkmaps
When finished download the template at https://hessenbox.tu-darmstadt.de/dl/fiM4CCqqYHQsJzQdPURFPnzV and extract it on your computer.
Try to open and run the file “Latex_Workshop_Template_en.tex” with your editor. The first run takes a few minutes.
If you are able to run the file without difficulty you are ready to participate in our workshop. If you are unable to manage the installation yourself you can ask for an appointment for private counseling at www.ulb.tu-darmstadt.de/sprechstunde.
Very important: Once the course has started, there is no time for further installations. So please make sure everything is running or visit the hour of technical assistance prior to the courses.
