Internship start for exchange students from North America in their virtual experience

Summer research programs at TU Darmstadt – IREP and AESG

2021/06/02

International research internships and summer schools are excellent opportunities for students to apply their theoretical studies and acquire intercultural experience. Therefore, TU Darmstadt is happy to offer the International Research Experience Program (IREP) and the Automotive Engineering Summer Germany (AESG) virtually for students of North-American partner universities.

Through the great commitment of all faculties a wide array of virtual projects were offered for IREP. The Institute of Automotive Engineering Darmstadt of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering adapted the AESG to a virtual format. These virtual offers were welcomed by the partners and we were happy to welcome 15 participants for our summer programs on May 17th.

The students’ international experience started with the orientation week. Apart from getting an insight in TU Darmstadt’s online system and resources, the students used the time to get to know Germany, Darmstadt and their fellow participants. Starting with an official welcome and a joint cooking event, the students got to know each other. An intercultural training as preparation for their internship work in another country, as well as an introduction into the online-resources of TU Darmstadt are very important for their start. Besides the preparation for the internship, social events shouldn’t be neglected. The Escape Game “Darmstadt Edition”, a pub quiz about Germany and a live guided tour in Berlin were the favourite activities in this area and provided another insight into the host country of their internship.

We wish our IREP and AESG participants much success in their internships at TU Darmstadt and look forward to their feedback on the internship experiences.
