Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering & Information Technology: Virtual Lecture with Taiwanese Partner

2021/06/12

Since the opening of the TU Darmstadt liaison office at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, southern Taiwan, in 2019, the number of joint projects and collaborations with partners in Taiwan has increased steadily. A series of online lectures by the Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering & Information Technology departments started this summer semester for Taiwanese students at NCKU.

When Taiwanese students have completed their bachelor's degree with good grades, they have to discuss the topic of their master's thesis with the supervising professor. After a competitive process and a confirmation of supervision, it will be time for them to consider a stay abroad.

What current research topics is the German partner university working on? What can students expect during a semester or a research stay at TU Darmstadt?

Students and faculty of NCKU received answers to these questions during a series of online lectures. Andreas Bläser, professor at the mechanical engineering department, started the lecture series on May 25 with the topic “Introduction to Tissue Engineering and 3D-Bioprinting Technology”. Dr. Ming-Shang Ju, professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NCKU, acted as his co-moderator.

On June 1 Prof. Stephan Rinderknecht followed with his lecture “Universal Hybrid Electric Vehicle – Smart Contribution to E-Mobility”. His co-moderator Dr. Ming-Hsun Wu was happy about the lively discussion after all lectures and encouraged his students to ask questions.

However, not only the students benefited from these events. Colleagues worked closely together and got to know each other and their areas of work and research better while preparing these activities.

The summer semester series at the Department of Mechanical Engineering concluded on June 15 with the lecture “Human-Robot-Collaboration in Industrial Applications” by Prof. Debora Clever, co-moderated by Prof. Chao-Chieh Lan. On the NCKU website, you will find more information on these and other joint events held by the two partners TU Darmstadt and NCKU, as well as the link to the lectures.

NCKU students could gain valuable insight into various research topics at TU Darmstadt as part of a virtual lecture series hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Following a lecture by Prof. Christian Hochberger on June 3, Dr. Michael Muma shared details about his research on “Signal Processing Solutions for Vital Signs Monitoring Using Wearables and Radar” on June 10.

Further lecture series are being planned for the upcoming winter semester. The Materials Science Department works closely with its partners at the National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU). Johann Lüder, a German professor at NSYSU, is pleased about the extension of the exchange agreement between TU Darmstadt and NSYSU. Now his department can also send two students to Darmstadt and welcome TUDa students to his scenic university, right at the seaside.

If you are interested in cooperating with National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) or one of the other five Taiwanese partner universities – National Taiwan University (NTU), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, (NTUST), National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) and National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) ) – , head of the TU Asia Offices, is available at any time for questions and support in the search for suitable cooperation partners.
