The TU Darmstadt Asia Office was invited to participate at the Falling Walls Labs in Taipei and Singapore and hand over an additional prize to both winners.

Present a break-through idea in only 3 minutes? Kai-Wen Yang from Taiwan and Cindy Ow from Singapore convinced the regional jury and had the chance to pitch their ideas at the Falling Walls Lab Finals in Berlin and visit TU Darmstadt. Both are considering Germany as their destination for a PhD.

Kai-Wen, winner of the Falling Walls Lab in Taiwan with the presentation „Breaking the Wall of Cementing in Spine“, visited the department of Materials Sciences, exchanged ideas with Prof. Hoog Antink, Head of Research Group KIS*MED, received advice by INGENIUM on how to apply for a PhD at TU Darmstadt, visited the Directorate of International Affairs and also participated in the TU9 Innovation Week. Kai-Wen summarized her stay: „I am grateful for the precious opportunity to visit TU Darmstadt, it was a truly precious experience.“

Cindy Ow, currently a scholar at the Singaporean A*STAR Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, and winner of the Falling Walls Lab Singapore with „Breaking the Wall of Universal Science Communication“ used the opportunity to visit the Department of Biology at the TU Darmstadt and receive first hand information about the research field and advice on choosing a PhD position.

Both visits were coordinated by the International Relations and Mobility Unit and will deepen the relationship with our Asian partners.
