The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Integrated Micro- and Nanosystems Group invites applications for a

Postdoc position „Microsystems for Cryomicroscopy“

fixed-term contract initially limited for 2 years.

Our group is looking for one postdoctoral scientist for an ERC-funded project combining microfluidics with light and electron cryomicroscopy. We are particularly looking for new team members with a strong background in the physical sciences or engineering and significant experience in cell and molecular biology.

The focus of this position is to explore model applications and technological advances of a new platform for correlative light and electron cryomicroscopy developed by our group. Part of this platform are specialized optics and immersion media for fluorescence imaging of vitrified cells and molecules at cryogenic temperature (below -140 °C). The artifact-free preservation and extreme photostability of vitrified cells open exciting opportunities for single-molecule imaging, STED microscopy, and correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM). In this project, some of these opportunities shall be pursued in the context of biological questions together with our collaborators and with the other members of our team. The position involves frequent visits to the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (Göttingen).

The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.
