The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for a vacant position for a

Professor (W3) of Transport Infrastructure Engineering

commencing in winter term 2021/2022.

We are looking for a scientifically proven personality for research and teaching in the field of transport infrastructure engineering, who has excellent technical knowledge and comprehensive practical engineering experience in traffic infrastructure engineering. Applicants should represent the subject comprehensively in research and teaching and demonstrate excellent knowledge in several subareas of the following topics:

  • Asset management, e.g. condition monitoring, condition forecasting, condition evaluation, predictive maintenance, performance review.
  • Load-bearing behaviour of traffic area constructions including non-destructive testing, e.g. as a result of traffic increase, vehicle constructions and autonomous driving, climate change.
  • Materials, preferably asphalt roads and/or railway superstructure, e.g. optimisation of current materials and introduction of new materials.
  • Construction methods, e.g. autonomous and industrial production, reconstruction and refurbishment during operation.
  • Technical and contractual quality assurance.
  • Financing and operating forms taking into account appropriate risk distribution, e.g. functional building contracts, PPP, concession models.
  • Digitization (sensor technology, processes, telematics).

Experience in considering requirements regarding safety, economy, operation, environment including recycling and demography as well as the chances from automation and digitization are advantageous.

The readiness for national and international cooperation and interdisciplinary work within the current and future research priorities of the department as well as with other departments is required. The person has to actively participate in the teaching of the department in German and English language through basic subjects and research-oriented advanced subjects. The application of new forms of teaching and learning is desired. In addition, the existing road construction laboratory must be managed.

The prerequisites are a completed engineering degree with subsequent, qualified doctorate at a university, followed by several years of research and development work, management and leadership experience, didactic and pedagogical aptitude, very good knowledge of German and English as well as the willingness to work in academic self-administration. Experience in experimental work is desired.

The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German "W-Besoldung" and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. The regulations for employment are specified under §§ 61 and 62 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
