The Department of Computer Science at Technical University of Darmstadt invites applications for the position of a

Professor (W3) for “3D Graphics & Vision”

starting as soon as possible.

We are looking for an outstanding scientist who will represent the interface between 3D computer graphics and 3D computer vision in research and teaching. The scientific focus of the position is on the core challenges of connecting visual representations of the real and virtual world. Exemplary research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • 3D reconstruction
  • Material capture
  • Motion capture
  • VR/AR content acquisition, e.g. of/for humans & avatars
  • Computational imaging & 3D imaging
  • Computational photography
  • Real-time or physics-based rendering
  • Perception for graphics
  • GPU computing

Successful candidates should demonstrate an outstanding scientific profile, with high-impact research contributions in the area of 3D graphics & vision. A research profile that connects to current application areas (e.g., virtual & augmented reality, virtual engineering, robotics & autonomous systems, cognitive science, medical engineering, imaging in natural & engineering sciences) or neighboring core areas of computer science (e.g., machine learning, high-performance computing) is desired. Candidates are expected to teach these topics in our undergraduate as well as graduate-level programs in computer science and visual computing. Successful collaboration in international research teams, with industry, or across research disciplines is desirable.

The professorship is expected to strengthen the department’s research focus on visual computing as well as the research focus area Information & Intelligence at the university level. Collaborations with other research areas including AI, cognitive science, digital humanities, or digitalization in engineering are possible and welcome. Depending on the candidate’s profile, participation in the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence (https://hessian.ai), Technical University of Darmstadt’s Centre for Cognitive Science (http://cogsci.tu-darmstadt.de), and/or the ELLIS Unit Darmstadt is possible.

In addition to excellent scientific credentials, we seek a strong commitment to teaching in the department’s bachelor and master programs. The aquisition of third-party funding as well as participation in academic governance is expected.
