The Department of Physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt announces a position for a
in the research group “Theoretical Quantum Optics” (Prof. E. Giese) at Institute of Applied Physics. The contract will be limited to three years with possible extensions and can begin at the applicants’ earliest convenience.
The INTENTAS project is a collaboration between several experimental and theoretical research groups funded by the German Aerospace Center. Its goal is the generation of entangled atomic ensembles to circumvent the standard quantum limit in a compact and robust atomic sensor. This sensor will serve as a future source for high-precision atom interferometry in space. The “Theoretical Quantum Optics” group supports with this announced position the efforts of our experimental colleagues in the development and design of the sensor from the theoretical side. Specifically, the project involves analytical and numerical modeling of entangled atoms during atom-optical manipulation to characterize the performed experiments. Using entangled atoms, tests of the validity of quantum physics and other fundamental questions are envisioned.
Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt).
To apply, please send the usual documents (letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, certificates; please in a single PDF file up to 10Mb), stating the identification number, by e-mail to Prof. Enno Giese, Hochschulstraße 4A, 64289 Darmstadt, enno.giese@tu-darmstadt.
