At Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, the following position is available, starting as soon as possible

Managing Director of the Graduate School Life Science Engineering – 50%

with a fixed-term employment contract until 15th April 2025.

The aim of the international graduate school is to strengthen the interaction in research between the natural sciences and the engineering sciences in the field of applied life sciences. In particular, the graduate school aims to establish interdisciplinary research and training of excellent international doctoral students.

The coordination of the graduate school includes the development of a recruitment strategy for international doctoral students, the organisational structure of the school, the development of attractive continuing education programmes for the doctoral members of the graduate school, the coordination of joint events as well as the support of doctoral students in administrative questions related to the doctorate. The position is assigned to the spokesperson of the graduate school (currently Prof. Dr. Heinz Koeppl, Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology).

We are looking for a committed support of the academic management of the graduate school. You will be responsible for the organisational structure of the graduate school and its integration into the administrative environment of the university and will be in regular contact with the teaching staff and the university administration. You will be responsible for the external presentation of the graduate school and the management of the application procedure, as well as for advising the registered doctoral candidates in all matters beyond their actual research project. Furthermore, you will play a decisive role in the submission of new funding applications, the preparation of corresponding reports, the organisation of scientific events (conferences, seminars), the further development of the doctoral programme, the development of criteria for quality assurance, the identification of needs for courses and events as well as the development of a curriculum for transferable skills.

A successfully completed doctorate with a scientific connection to life science engineering is a prerequisite for employment. You have excellent communication skills and are able to work in a service-oriented manner. Communication is almost exclusively in English, so very good written and spoken English skills are required. The willingness to work in a service-oriented manner, the ability to work in a team, social skills and the ability to act independently in an environment characterised by interdisciplinarity and internationality are required.
