At the Chair of Material Flow Management and Resource Economy (Prof. Dr. Liselotte Schebek) at the IWAR Institute of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Technische Universität Darmstadt there is an immediate opening for a
in an employment contract initially limited until 31.08.2025.
Your research focus is in the area of digitalization of the circular economy. As part of a research project on AI-supported value chains for the recycling of plastic packaging, you will independently develop new research approaches to evaluate the impact of the AI technologies used in terms of resource efficiency. Along with the project partners from the industry, waste management sector and research institutions, you will investigate different optimization set-ups for closing the material loop with focus on plastic packaging, considering its entire life cycle. For the evaluation of the different set ups, you will consider both the environmental impacts and the costs related to the digital transformation for closing the material loop, as well as social aspects, if applicable. You cooperate with practice partners, prepare your research results for scientific publications and conferences and adapt them with regard to good communication of recommendations for action. Your research activities are embedded in a close cooperation with the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategy (Fraunhofer IWKS). You develop ideas for future research projects and actively participate in the preparation of research proposals.
You have a university degree in environmental engineering, process engineering, waste and resource management or a comparable course of study, a qualified doctorate and, in particular, comprehensive methodological and practical knowledge of LCA and, if applicable, other system-analytical and/or economic approaches (e.g. material flow analyses, input-output models). You have very good knowledge of the circular economy and are familiar with stakeholders and the social and political environment. You have experience in working on third-party funded research projects and in the preparation of scientific publications. We expect excellent written and spoken German (C2-level) and very good English skills (C1-level). This is a highly interdisciplinary project; thus you should have a communicative personality and enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams.
The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.
Applications should include the customary supporting material and be sent via e-mail (only one PDF-file) to the Dean of Faculty 13, Franziska-Braun-Str. 3, D-64287 Darmstadt, email@example.com. Further information can be obtained by contacting Prof. Dr. Liselotte Schebek by telephone (00496151-16-20721) or e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org).
