We are looking for

• an experienced scientist/researcher with excellent scientific credentials and international visibility or
• an internationally outstanding researcher in an early career phase with excellent contributions and promising potential

in at least one in the following research areas:

• Theory and methods of statistical inference
• Robust statistical signal processing
• Statistical learning theory
• Theoretical performance analysis and interpretability of signal processing methods
• Guarantees and interpretability of statistical learning methods
• New trends in statistical signal and learning theory

Based on signal theory and statistical inference, the professorship will develop new statistical procedures and analysis methods to make machine learning explainable and reproducible, and to quantify and provide guarantees for learning success.

The professorship should engage in interdisciplinary research collaboration with other groups in the department, within other departments and with research and industrial partners.

Within the full professorship the regulations for employment are specified under §§ 67 and 68 HessHG (Hessian Higher Education Act). The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German "W-Besoldung" and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate.

The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to §70 HessHG (Hessian Higher Education Act). Accordingly, the duration of the academic activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the scientific activity after the doctorate four years. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than TU Darmstadt or have worked scientifically outside TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.

The assistant professorship is initially limited to six years and comes with the option of a tenured professorship after a successfully completed tenure process. The tenure process, which can be initiated one and a half years before the end of the assistant professorship, evaluates the corresponding achievements in research and teaching. After a successful probationary phase of six years, the immediate transition to a tenured professorship W2 is granted, for which a W3 professorship can be applied for after a further five years. A comparable employment relationship is possible.
