Research Assistant (all genders) – 75 %

Starting as soon as possible. The contract duration is planned for three years.

We are looking for a candidate with strong modelling skills and interest in energy and geoscience, to establish cosimulations between geothermal reservoir systems and surface heating networks to strengthen our team.

The subsurface geothermal systems (such as borehole heat exchangers, aquifer thermal storages, and mine thermal storages) are modelled using the finite element method, while heating networks or geothermal surface components are modelled with system modelling tools. The co-simulation approach integrates both models to assess the overall efficiency of the systems.

Your duties:

  • Develop co-simulation approaches based on internally available codes
  • Develop models for different geothermal systems for different sites
  • Presentation of results at project meetings and scientific conferences
  • Publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Skills and qualifications:

  • successful completed masters degree
  • Background in the finite element method modelling (FEFLOW, COMSOL, MATLAB…)
  • Backgound in energy system modelling (OpenModellica, SimulationX, Dymola)
  • Programming skills (MATLAB, C++, Python)
  • Skills in interdisciplinary, on-time, goal- and team-oriented work
  • High proficiency in English and\or German

Further desirable skills and qualifications:

  • Knowledge and interest in geoscience, reservoir characterization, rock mechanics, petrophysics, or geo- and hydrochemistry

We offer a professional work environment and support our staff in the acquisition of external funds and provide many opportunities to work with international collaboration partners from academia and industry through our joint research projects and international collaborations. Modern computer and laboratory equipment is provided.

The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
