The New Materials Electronics Group at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Darmstadt focuses on research in magnetic thin-film systems for spin-based applications in electronics and sensor technology. The group is intensively involved in collaborations with other working groups at TU Darmstadt as well as throughout Germany.

The position to be filled is a DFG-funded project in the field of spin-orbitronics, where applications of various spin-orbit effects in electronics are studied. The scientific goal of the successful candidate’s project is the development of spintronic THz emitters with uniaxial or unidirectional magnetic anisotropy for novel, field-free and polarization-controlled THz applications. The activities will range from the synthesis of thin films by magnetron sputtering and materials characterization to the lithographic fabrication of prototype microdevices and ultrafast laser experiments.

Your profile

• Very good university degree (Master or equivalent) in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field with a strong focus on spintronics and/or magnetic materials and thin films.
• Experience with standard characterization techniques for thin films and clean room processing and/or magnetism is helpful.
• German language skills are not mandatory, but fluency in English is required.
• High intrinsic motivation, reliability, creativity, as well as the ability to discuss, formulate, and present scientific results in English

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
