The Department of Computer Science at Technical University of Darmstadt has an immediate vacancy for an

Assistant Professor (W1) for Mobile Human-Computer Interaction

for a period of 6 years.

An emerging scientific talent with an excellent scientific profile documented by an outstanding relevant PhD and publications at top international conferences and journals is searched for. Applicants should represent the subject comprehensively in research and teaching. Promising collaboration potential is also desired; this can be evidenced, for example, by joint publications with (international) colleagues or by successful collaborative projects. Willingness to participate in academic self-administration is a prerequisite.

The expertise documented by applicants should relate to important current and future challenges in human-computer interaction, with a focus on mobile usage scenarios. Good connectivity to the department's focus on extended reality (XR) research should be evident - for example, interaction concepts for AR in smart cities, innovative input modalities, or mobile XR for augmented humans are possible. In research and teaching, we expect representation of the canonical methods of HCI research such as elicitation and design methods, and especially the toolkit for empirical evaluation. Due to the fact that the professorship is anchored in computer science, the methodological approach should primarily serve the investigation of self-developed scientifically innovative interaction concepts. A written teaching and research concept is to be submitted; it should also address cooperation intentions at the department and, if applicable, at the university.

The assistant professorship is designed as a qualification professorship according to §70 HessHG. Accordingly, the duration of the scientific activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the activity after the doctorate four years. Applicants should have obtained their doctorate at a university other than the TU Darmstadt or should have worked scientifically outside the TU Darmstadt for at least two years after obtaining their doctorate. The appointment is made in a temporary civil service relationship for a period of six years in grade W1 according to the Hessian Salary Law. A comparable employment relationship is possible.

Technical University of Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. Incase of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Technical Universityof Darmstadt is certified as a family-friendly university and offers a dual career program.

Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, copies of degree certificates, list of publications, previous research and teaching activities) as well as a teaching and research concept should be sent to the Dean of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Dr. Christian Reuter (dekanat@informatik.tu-darmstadt.de), quoting the identification number.
