The research and teaching focus of the new professorship should be on innovative medical device concepts and instruments. We are looking for candidates with an independent research profile in one or more of the following scientific areas:

• Technologies for regenerative medicine (e.g. tissue engineering, organ-on-a-chip technology, artificial organs, bio-hybrid implants)
• Mechatronic systems in medical engineering (e.g. prosthetics, endoscopy, bioMEMS, microsurgery, microrobotics, nanorobotics, medical robotics, smart implants)
• New analytic technologies for biomedical engineering (e.g., for point-of-care diagnostics and/or laboratory medicine, lab-on-chip technology, concepts for biosensors, microscopy)
• Bioelectronics/electronic systems in biomedical engineering (e.g., neurosensorics, neuroelectronics, brain-computer- interfaces, flexible electronics, neurostimulation, optogenetic neuroprosthetics, optoelectronic systems, low power/wireless wearable/implantable devices)

As an assistant professor you lead an independent research group and enjoy complete academic freedom in the direction of your research.

A flexible budget is available for investments, personnel and running costs. The amount is comparable to competitive individual funding programs (e.g. ERC Starting Grant, DFG Emmy Noether), which can be applied for in addition.

The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to § 70 HessHG. Accordingly, the duration of the scientific activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the activity after the doctorate should not exceed four years. This maximum duration may be extended if necessary in the case of children under the legal requirements of § 70 HessHG. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than the TU Darmstadt or have worked scientifically outside of TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.

A clear international and interdisciplinary orientation should be evident from your scientific profile. Furthermore, a core expertise in the field of electrical engineering and information technology and the ability to cooperate with specialists in the biomedical field and related disciplines is expected.

The assistant professorship is initially limited to six years. Research and teaching performance during this time will be considered in the tenure review process, which may be initiated one and a half years before the end of the assistant professorship. Upon successful completion of the tenure review, the position immediate becomes a tenured W2 professorship. Promotion to the W3 (full professor) level is possible after additional five years. For further information, please see the tenure guidelines of TU Darmstadt. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. A comparable employment relationship is possible.
