As part of the BMBF-funded project "InsightsNet - Development of a meta-methodology and a conceptual framework for transdisciplinary in-depth exploration and analysis of multimodal digital objects. Demonstrated on the Use Cases AI and Climate Change Discourses" (www.insightsnet.org), the following position is available at Technische Universität Darmstadt

Research Assistant (all genders) – 75 %

for the remainder of the duration of the project (end of March 2024).

The position will be based in the Corpus and Computational Linguistics group of the Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies and is to be filled by a person competent in the humanities, social sciences and information technology with experience and interests in the field of multimodal linguistic and content analysis of digital corpora.

Your tasks are:

  • construction of digital multimodal (text - image - video etc.) corpora on the use cases AI and climate change,
  • linguistic and content analyses of the corpora,
  • annotation, data analysis and presentation of networked multimodal corpora,
  • transdisciplinary cooperation in the development of annotation and analysis scenarios for networked multimodal corpora,
  • planning and implementation of workshops for testing and dissemination of analyses.

What we expect from you:

  • a Master's degree in linguistics, corpus / computational linguistics, or a related humanities and social science, digital humanities, or computer science with a strong focus in linguistic natural language processing,
  • experience in the field of linguistic and social science corpus analysis,
  • a strong interest in information technology issues related to information indexing,
  • experience with linguistic tools and procedures of quantitative and qualitative corpus analysis, ideally also programming experience, e.g. with Python in Natural Language Processing, and/or experience with Machine Learning in corpus analysis,
  • interest in and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team in the field of Digital Humanities,
  • very good knowledge of written and spoken English.

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
