In the Department of Biology at TU Darmstadt, Heun laboratory the position of a
will be immediately available for an initial period of 3 years.
We are interested in the question how specific regions of the chromosome are organised, such as centromeres or heterochromatin, and how their epigenetic identity is passed on during cell division. To answer these questions, we use tissue cultures of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and humans as model organisms. The aim of the project is to investigate the role of non-coding transcription at the centromere. We use tissue culture, CRISPR-Cas9, microscopy, mass spectroscopy, and other general molecular biology techniques to characterize identified protein candidates and their function at the centromere.
We offer: As part of a dynamic team of international scientists, the successful applicants will work in an exciting and interactive research environment and use modern technologies in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry. You will contribute to building an international team at TU Darmstadt. Part of the lab is currently still at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. This offers the opportunity to gain experience on site in Edinburgh. We offer a thematically broad field of work and exciting projects.
We expect: Prerequisites for employment are a completed scientific university degree (Master of Science or comparable) in the biological sciences or related natural sciences with excellent grades. You have practical experience in the field of molecular biology and/or biochemistry and are very interested in biological questions. We expect highly motivated employees who enjoy working in an international team. Very good knowledge of English is required.
Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply.
