Area of research: Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Polymers
Name of my University / Research Institute: Persian Gulf University
Research period at the TU Darmstadt: July-September 2012
Questionnaire to the Research Fellow
My field of research is fascinating. To laymen I would explain it in the following comprehensible manner:
We try to obtain a molecular level understanding of the physical properties of polymers. In particular we have been focusing on the behavior and properties of polymer nanocomposites, which are a new class of compounds with applications in many areas of science and technology. Compared to neat polymers, polymer nanocomposites exhibit a significant increase in mechanical, thermal stability, and flame retardancy. An area of considerable interest to us is to understand how the presence of a surface affects the structure and dynamics of polymers. Our methods of study cover different time and length scales, ranging from atomistic simulation to development and application of coarse-grained models, enabling one to simulate long-chains of polymers.
My most important success in research to date is…
to do up-to-date research in the field. In this respect I am the distinguished researcher of my university.
I’ve chosen the TU Darmstadt because of…
I got to know TUD because of my host (Professor Florian Müller-Plathe) and I found it a modern scientific environment.
The perfect balance to a stressful working day is…
to go for a trip with my family.
With the help of my host in Darmstadt I would like to…
be able to do outstanding research in the field.
Questionnaire for the host
Guest of: Prof. Dr. Florian Müller-Plathe
You appreciate in your guest / your guest favourably impressed you by… his creativity, his steadiness and above all a colleague whose collaboration I really enjoy.
You, your team and the TU Darmstadt benefit from your guest’s…
knowledge and ideas, which have already led to cooperations with the entire team of Ph.D. students and post-docs and to several high-quality publications.
