At the Computer Science Department of Technical University Darmstadt we are looking for a motivated student to join the Distributed and Networked Systems lab (part of the Systems@TUDa Group,https://tuda.systems) as

Research Assistant / Doctoral Researcher (all genders) in Data Processing on FPGAs

The starting date is flexible but preferably in Autumn 2024. The position is limited to 3 years. The position is classified according to pay group 13 of the TU Darmstadt collective agreement (TV-TU Darmstadt).

As a doctoral researcher in the group, you will have the opportunity to carry out cutting-edge research on topics related to the increasing gap between data sizes and CPU performance in the datacenter and clouds that limit our ability to solve complex problems. Your role will be to help us overcome computational challenges, by looking beyond today's software and hardware architectures – namely, by using FPGAs deployed next to CPUs, in the storage nodes, or inside the network. Our group offers opportunities for working on exciting research topics in a vibrant international setting and in collaboration with other leading universities, as well as with FPGA and Database companies.

Qualification Requirements

The following qualifications are required:

  • The candidate must have completed a University Science Degree (M.Sc./ Diploma) in Computer Science, Electric Engineering or an equivalent field or the M.Sc. is achieved at the latest by the date of the recruitment.
  • The candidate must have extensive prior experience with specialized hardware accelerators (ideally FPGAs).
  • Prior experience with distributed systems, operating systems or databases is a plus.

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

Technical University of Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Part-time employment is generally possible.

Application

The application must be in English and must include:

  • Curriculum Vitae, which must include two professional/academic references (letters of recommendation will be requested, if needed, directly from the references).
  • A 1-page Letter of Motivation, describing your research profile and future plans.
  • Documentation of academic degree(s). Note that if the Master’s degree is not yet achieved, you will have to provide explanation on what exams still remain and provide the expected date of graduation.
  • Optional: relevant technical reports or scientific publications of the applicant.

Applications without the above-mentioned documents will not be assessed.

Please send inquiries and applications (referencing the vacancy code 144) to Prof. Zsolt István (Zsolt.istvan@cs.tu-darmstadt.de). Application deadline: 15th June 2024.
