Deutschlandstipendium: More than just money!

A novelty at TU Darmstadt: „More than just money – making the most of the Deutschlandstipendium“ was the topic the current DLS scholarship holders dealt with for two days. On 14th and 15th January 2016, more than 150 scholarship holders met for a workshop to discuss and shape their ideas and activities for a successful DLS year.

The title already says it: the Deutschlandstipendium can be much more than just a transaction in a bank account. It can open doors, create networks and initiate exchange among the scholarship holders. Many of them underestimate the opportunities of DLS and misjudge their role as „ambassadors“. It was the workshop that made this potential visible and usable. The Vice President, Administration and Financial Affairs visualizes the workshop as a basic support in order to develop this „treasure“ in a sensible and strategic manner.

Exchange of experience

For the first time, the workshop brought together scholarship holders from all departments. The intensive exchange of experience was important and helpful to many participants. Especially for the forthcoming scholarship holder party. In a panel discussion, scholarship holders from the last funding period passed on their own personal experiences. The overwhelming response confirmed the idea of the Deutschlandstipendium Team for „more than just money“. After only one week, both workshops were booked, the waiting list – correspondingly long.

Activities

The scholarship holders developed expectations and challenges from the point of view of sponsors and scholarship holders. This gave rise to two central activities which are fundamental for scholarship holders to make the DLS year successful. On the one hand, the networking with other scholarship holders in different formats. On the other hand, the perception of the role as a DLS ambassador, e.g. by accompanying the DLS team in various activities. Ideas on how to build and use networking are now being implemented by the fellows themselves. Two topics are followed up:

• Newsletter and/or a forum for digital networking to assist with problems or organize future meetings.

• Regular meetings, which sponsors can also be invited to, or meetings on the occasion of the mid-term/ending of the DLS year for the exchange of experience.
