Welcome Thomas Wallis

March 2021. Prof. Thomas Wallis, PhD, joined the Centre for Cognitive Science as professor for “Perception” at the Institute of Psychology. His research aims to understand the computational principles underlying our ability to combine sensory inputs to generate holistic perceptual experience. To do so, he combines the traditions of experimental psychology and psychophysics with recent advances in AI and machine learning. He has made contributions to various subfields of perception science, including visual crowding, eye movements, motion-induced blindness, binocular rivalry, contrast perception, macular degeneration, hazard perception in driving, and describing similarities and differences in biological and artificial perceiving systems. He is passionate about open scientific practice and publication.
