2021/05/20

May 2021. Prof. Loes van Dam, PhD, joined the Centre for Cognitive Science as Professor for “Sensorimotor Control and Learning” at the Institute of Psychology.

Her research focuses on understanding the multisensory and cognitive processes that allow us to interact with the physical world around us, such as when reaching for and grasping objects. As such her work cuts across several areas of human perception, cognition and action. For instance she has published on such topics as binocular vision, 3D visual perception, multisensory processing of vision and haptics, visuomotor learning in reaching, grasping and tracking tasks, and perceived embodiment of, for instance, virtual avatars in Virtual Reality. In her work she combines techniques from psychophysics and ideal-observer modeling with tools such as Virtual Reality, haptic force-feedback devices and eye tracking.
