Graduate School Life Science Engineering Retreat 2025
Retreat Reflections – Graduate School Life Science Engineering
2025/04/23 by Julia Detzer
Beautiful weather in the mountains and an amazing community—what more could we ask for? Once again, the Graduate School Life Science Engineering spent an inspiring week together in Kleinwalsertal, at the Darmstädter Haus in Austria.
The retreat was filled with scientific talks and lively discussions, poster sessions, and lots of fun. While some explored the mountains on foot, others took to the skis to enjoy the snow.
We’re especially grateful to Prof. Patrick Heun, Prof. Thomas Burg, Prof. Harald Kolmar, Prof. Felix Hausch, and Prof. Fatemeh Mirzapour for sharing valuable insights into their research and career paths.
A special thank you to Dr. John Wong from Paicon (Heidelberg) for joining us and introducing the innovative work of Paicon—a young startup using AI-driven data analysis to support early and accurate cancer diagnostics.
Last but not least, Bartosz Kajdas wrapped up the retreat with a dynamic workshop on pitch training—an essential skill for every young scientist and a great way to get to know each other’s research more deeply.
Grateful to be part of such a vibrant and inspiring community—already looking forward to the next adventure!
