Assistant-Professorships (W2, Tenure Track) Biomedical Engineering

Within the scope of the strategic alliance of the Rhein-Main-Universitäten an interdisciplinary and university-wide focal point Biomedical Engineering is being set up. Key component of this process is the bundling and comprehensive expansion of research and teaching in the field of Biomedical Engineering (https://www.tu-darmstadt.de/medizintechnik/) at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of Technische Universität Darmstadt.

Initially the development of this focal point is taking place by the establishment of a W3 professorship and a W2 assistant professorship with tenure track. With the participation of these professorships a further thematically connected W2 assistant professorship with tenure track will subsequently be set up.

Within the framework of this process a

Assistant-Professorships (W2, Tenure Track) Biomedical Engineering

has to be filled at the earliest possible date. The professorship is independently and free of instructions in its subjects and entrusts an independent area of expertise.

The professorship is to actively support the establishment of an interdisciplinary, university-wide and internationally visible research location. Further it is to participate in the implementation of the master´s programme which consecutively supplements the bachelor’s programme that began with the winter semester of 2018/19.

The research and teaching focus of the new professorship will be the development of innovative medical device concepts and instruments. By these the existing core competencies of the department shall be complemented and an excellent base for interdisciplinary cooperation within the Rhein-Main-Verbund, especially the medical departments of the Frankfurt and Mainz universities, will be set up.

We are looking for postdoc researchers with excellent reputation in at least one of the following scientific areas:

  • Biomechanics and robotics, e.g. for minimally invasive surgery, dental technology, prosthetics, movement therapy or rehabilitation process
  • Sensor and actuator systems, e.g. for microfluidics, MEMS, intracor-poreal sensor technology, wearables or active implants
  • Biosensors, biomedical and electromagnetic sensors, e.g. for in-vitro- bzw. point-of-care-diagnostic, or for theranostics
  • Neuroelectronics and brain computer interface, e.g. for neuroimplants
  • Signal processing and molecular data analysis, e.g. for health-monitoring or diagnostic
  • Radiotherapy, diagnostic and interventional radiology, e.g. hadron therapy or stereotactic body
  • Medical imaging, e.g. ultrasonic, tomography or 3D- and 4D-method
  • Modeling and computer simulation with reference to previous topics

The ability to cooperate with specialist representatives of the medical field and related disciplines is expected and has to be accounted for in the research programme enclosed in the application. Applicants are invited to outline the potential of their research for the development of novel biomedical technology issues and also the relevance of their research topics for the establishment of a focal point Biomedical Engineering at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the framework of Rhein-Main-Universitäten as well as map out intended teaching and research activities.

Candidates will hold a qualified PhD and have a track record of excellent and independent contributions in research and teaching with an interdisciplinary and international profile in the focus area of the professorship.

The professorships are financed by funds from the „Federal-state program for the promotion of young scientists“.

Regulations on the maximum period of scientific activities after the acquisition of the PhD degree as well as all additional requirements for employment are subject to § 64 section 3 HHG in the respective current versions. The Assistant Professorship is designed as Qualification Professorship as per § 64 HHG. For the position the option for a tenured full professorship after a successful tenure procedure is given.

The position is limited to six years. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz.
